Training for Insurance Professionals

Health Insurance Exam

We often think of the life insurance exam but there is also an exam requirement for health insurance as well. These two are sometimes kept separate but you can also combine them for a life and health insurance license. Let’s turn our focus to the health insurance exam. It’s nearly impossible to answer the question “is a health insurance exam hard” because the truth is that the exams vary from state to state. What you will find is that most states have similar materials on their exams as well as similar requirements for a passing score.

Studying for a Health Insurance Exam

If you’re planning to take the exam for health insurance licensure, check out these tips to help you be successful.

1. Plan to Study

Most likely you will need to study in order to pass the exam. You can take an exam prep course that works for you but even outside of that course, you need to plan to study on your own. There really isn’t a one size fits all approach to studying but you definitely don’t want to slack on this part. Here’s the thing – most exams require a score of 70% or higher to pass and this may vary in some states. While 70% may seem like an easy score to get for some, it may be more challenging than you expect. In general, it is recommended that you spend a minimum of 35 hours studying for your health insurance exam prior to taking the test. Certain states do require a certain amount of study hours. It is not recommended that you try to cram in all of these hours immediately prior to the exam either.

2. Invest in a Training Course

While you certainly can study on your own, we recommend taking a study course to help you prepare for the health insurance exam. Courses are a requirement in some states. There is a lot to cover and you’re going to need to be familiar with multiple topics in order to pass the exam. The good news is that you can find training courses that cater to your preferences. If you are a self-study type of person, there are courses for that personality. On the same note, if you prefer in-classroom learning you can also find those types of courses available. Enterprise Training School offers Classroom courses, Webinar Courses as well as Online Self-Study Courses. Find a resource that has a high rate of success and provides the type of course that you need for your own success. It’s well worth the investment.

3. Exam Tips

Finally, once you’ve studied and prepped, it’s time to take the exam. Find a testing center that works for you and be sure to look at their requirements and rules before you go. You will need to have a scheduled testing time and be prepared for their rules when you show up. The night before your exam, be sure to get a good night’s rest. If you’ve studied appropriately before now, you shouldn’t have to cram that night. It’s time to let your brain rest before the exam. During the exam, always carefully read the question and all available answers before making a selection. Remember that the exam is timed so don’t spend too long on a single question. If you are unsure, you can mark that question for review and return to it before you submit the exam.
